An introduction to Football v Homophobia Scotland, the FvH Scotland strategy and its supporting resources. Participants will understand how to embed the strategy within their activity.

Participants will gain an understanding of the current landscape of LGBTI discrimination and abuse as it relates to football. They will be able to identify barriers to participation for LGBTI people and understand how these impact on access to and satisfaction with football.

Participants will gain an understanding of how the Equality Act 2010 impacts on the service they deliver and will understand the impact of homophobia/transphobia on the welfare of those involved in football. Participants will understand the additional vulnerabilities of LGBTI people and their duties to safeguard these individuals.

Participants will be able to identify opportunities for challenging homophobia/transphobia, removing barriers to participation and supporting LGBTI engagement.

This seminar requires some bespoke preparations. Participants should already have a prior understanding of LGBTI terminology. Participants will examine their own role in diversity and inclusion and consider ways to ensure LGBTI inclusion and tackle discrimination and LGBTI-phobia. Participants will also look at their current policy framework as well as the wider social policy and legislation framework. Participants should review and bring along any existing equality and diversity policies and procedures.

Participants will gain an understanding of LGBTI issues and the current landscape of LGBTI discrimination and abuse in relation to football. Participants will understand what it means to be an ally and explore how to create inclusive behaviours and practices. They will be able to identify barriers to participation for LGBTI people and ways to minimise or remove them. Participants will gain confidence in how to speak up on LGBTI equality related issues and how best to respond in the face of homophobia.

2.5 hours

This is available to enable participants to deliver Grassroots Training Workshops or FvH Allies Training.  This will enable football stakeholders to roll out the aforementioned training to others in their training to others in their organisations or to incorporate LGBTI specific material into existing inhouse training. Accompanying Powerpoint slides will also be provided.

Building Bridges workshops are particularly targeted where there has been disciplinary action taken, or where there is a need for behaviour change around issues of LGBTI-phobia. Participants will gain an understanding of LGBTI discrimination and abuse as it relates to football. Participants will be able to
identify barriers to participation for LGBTI people and understand how these impact on access to and satisfaction with football. The training will include trained LGBTI+ people who have experiences in football and participants will be expected to create action plans to develop their learning.

3 hours

Our assembly explains what homophobia is and explores how inclusion can make sport fun for everyone. It highlights how pupils can be role models for inclusion within their own schools. Our workshop helps pupils understand what homophobia is and how it impacts everyone. It raises awareness of homophobic name-calling, language and bullying and highlights how being a good team-mate can make sport inclusive and fun for everyone.

Pupils will gain an understanding of the gender and sexuality spectrum. They will explore key questions such as 'Who is sport for?' and 'Why do many LGBTQ+ people unwelcome in sport?' Pupils will explore language that can be hurtful to others and have the opportunity to discuss stereotypes in sports and wider society. Pupils learn about LGBTIQ+ sports heroes, the work of Football v Homophobia Scotland, and how they can make a difference in their school and on their team.
